Financing Opportunities for Small Businesses
Princeton Merchants Association's General Meeting on 4/22/14
“Innovative Financing for Entrepreneurs" was the topic of our April meeting. We invited two experts to speak about opportunities available on the financing front, specifically crowd funding and state funding.
Chris Tyrrell, founder and CEO of OfferBoard and chairman of CrowdFund Intermediary Regulatory Advocates, informed our members about the exciting changes in securities regulations brought about by the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act) which is a law intended to encourage investments in small businesses.
Kathleen Coviello, Director of the Technology & Life Sciences Division at the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA), spoke about NJ EDA's funding initiatives, business incentives, tax credits, and venture fund investment programs available for businesses in our state.
Mark Censits, owner of CoolVines and co-founder of Community Investment Exchange (CIEx), followed Tyrrell and Coviello and spoke about CIEx, an initiative to create a platform based in Princeton that will allow local businesses, local entrepreneurs, and local nonprofits to post offerings or solicitations for funding and allow local people to participate in the offerings.
