The Art of the Social Media Giveaway
Hosting a giveaway promotion through your Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram account has great potential to boost your engagement rate and increase amount of followers. It’s a simple format: offer a desirable product, service, or experience for free to a lucky winner that follows a certain set of criteria that you determine.
While many brands try to boost their reach through giveaway events, a great number of them fail to do so. This could be due to a number of different factors. Either way, you don’t want your business to end up like the ones who hosted subpar giveaways, right?
Consider the following tips to make sure that your giveaway promotions have greater chances for success:
Make Your Giveaway Open to Followers Only:
Start off by making the promotion available only to your followers. That means someone who desires to participate must follow you in order to do so. It’s a quick and easy way to spark an increase in your social media fan base.
Have Followers Share Something:
Make sure one of your giveaway's rules requires the participants to share an image or post that you created for the promotion. This incentivizes the followers to re-post your content and spread it to others who may have never seen or heard of your brand otherwise. It’s a quick way to increase exposure without requiring much work on your end.
Consider Collaborating with Other Brands:
Doing a multi-brand giveaway allows for a more complete offering of prizes and draws in other companies’ audiences. For example, if a clothing store partners with a shoe store for a giveaway, that will put both businesses in front of each other’s followers.
Make the Reward Worthwhile:
The reward for participating in a giveaway must be something that a large majority of your audience would actually want. If you’re trying to give away a piece of back stock that didn’t sell well, there’s very little chance that it was something your followers would care enough to try to win for free.
Instead, give away something new, fast-selling, or exciting. Make audience members want to participate and incentivize them with a desirable prize.
Promote More than Once:
Don’t just post once about a giveaway and then never mention it again. While referencing it every day might be overkill, try to put the promotion in front of followers’ eyes at least twice per week. This increases event awareness and may catch those who missed the initial announcement.
Keep it Up:
If your giveaway event is successful, then don’t just consider it a one-off campaign! Make sure that you continue to factor these types of promotions into your schedule regularly in the near future. This will keep your followers guessing, engaged, and eager to participate.
