Changes in Employment Rules: the Impact on Small Businesses, Nonprofits and the Community

The PMA presents a program on the changing rules regarding employment practices. Topics will include local and national initiatives such as paid time off and increasing the minimum wage, two hotly debated issues that have been proposed but have not been passed into law. Plus, the new Department of Labor Paid Overtime Rules that go into effect in December. We will discuss the impact these changes will have on the cost of doing business, the benefits to workers vs. challenges for employers, and the impact of changes on the community, then open it up to an open forum discussion with PMA attendees.

The discussion will include both nonprofits and small businesses with panelists:

How can we improve signage ordinances in our town?

The PMA will be conducting a signage workshop on Tuesday, June 21st, 8:00 am - 10:00 am, at the Arts Council of Princeton, 102 Witherspoon Street, in order to provide recommendations for improvements to the signage ordinances in Princeton. Issues of size, location, historic issues and illumination will be discussed.

Items that we will be looking at include:

  • Sandwich board signs
  • Wall mounted signage
  • Blade mounted signage
  • Storefront glazing mounted signage
  • Awning signage
  • Wayfinding signage
  • Seasonal banners

Architect Joshua Zinder of JZA+D will be presenting issues and options and moderating an open dialogue to improve signage ordinances in town.

2014 National Special Olympic Games - 6/16/14 to 6/20/14

Special Olympics Aquatics and Track and Field Events

Princeton University - DeNunzio Pool and Weaver Stadium

Princeton Merchants Association and the Princeton Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau will provide free shuttle service between the venues to downtown Princeton. The shuttle will run in a continuous 30-minute loop during a five hour period on each of the days of the events, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m.

Volunteers from the PMA and PRCVB will ride on the shuttle to welcome visitors and give directions to places to shop, dine and tour.
